I am running day one of a two day programme for the colleges on the east of Scotland on Monday 16th January 2012 at Jewel and Esk College at their Edinburgh Campus. The course will look at applying NLP techniques in your role as a leader in a college. Pre course material has been issued to participants prior to Christmas just to get them interested and curious for more.

2012 will certainly bring further radical changes to our scottish colleges with a number of mergers planned and discussions taking place around the country for more. Change is inevitiable and are you equipped with the skills to deliver the reform agenda required.

This programme will look at a number of topics including problem thinking to outcome thinking, anchoring ,establishing goals using well-formed outcomes process and perceptual positioning.

Ask yourself these questions now:

Would it be useful to have a new way to approach problems?

How many times have you spent in a meeting going round and round a problem without a solution?

Do you ever decide you want something and then find it doesn’t happen or make plans and targets that you don’t follow through?

If you have decided on your goals, would it be helpful for you to have a way of making them happen?

Contact NLP Plus today to find out more.

Twinkle, twinkle little star who will be the strictly winning dancing star!

It’s this time of year again with the nights getting darker, our curtains are getting closed and your settling cozy round the fire watching the celebrities all performing the waltz, salsa and tango. Lots to learn and remember but what about those feet!!

Lulu has called on help from TV hypnotist Derren Brown to improve her memory for those complicated routines and a little help with the pre –show nerves. Even Celebrities can have that lack of confidence.

The Circle of Excellence technique will help you summon up the confidence to perform a particular skill. You can use it if you have a fear of public speaking, if you want to boost your confidence to play your best shot in that round of golf or many other instances.

First, think of the situation where you are going to perform and imagine your own magic circle on the ground in front of you. Make it a generous circle of about three feet in diameter. These step-by-step instructions take you in and out of your magic circle, telling you what to do at each stage, with the help of a partner.

CIRCLE Visualise a circle in front of you.

OUT Identify your best state to perform your skill.

Tell your partner what that state is.

Your partner says: “Remember a time when you were xxxxxxxxxx” (use their words) … get back to it strongly … see what you saw then, hear what you heard, feel what you felt.

IN Step into the circle and re-live that experience (make it vivid, be there in it). Feel what your hands are doing and hold or anchor that state with a hand movement. Some people press their thumb and forefinger together.

OUT Step out of the circle and break state and repeat the exercise with a second experience of your best state.

In order to prepare for the future event, your partner says: “think of a time when this state will be useful”.

IN With your hand in the anchored position, you move into the circle, and your partner asks you to see, hear, and feel how it can be now for you.

OUT Relax … you’ve got it!

NLP Shape your Life

If you were to take some time just now, and relax, that’s right and reflect on your life.

What would you choose to start changing so you have the life you want?

Imagine yourself much later in life sitting in your rocking chair and looking back over your life.

What if you haven’t achieved your goal!

How would you feel? Do you experience any pain or loss?

Just imagine you had achieved that goal!

How would you feel? Experience the pleasure of success

Your task right now

Using the wheel below rate different parts of your life. Zero being the centre of the wheel where you feel things are a bit low with the contrast the circumference of the wheel is rated ten “being just great!”

How is your life shaping up

Have a go now!!

rate your own life

Is there an area where you could choose to start setting goal (s) now?

Take time to think about what it is you really want?

Now ask yourself these questions when forming your goal

Is your goal stated in the positive?

Is it initiated and maintained by yourself and in your control?

Does it describe the evidence procedure? (what will you see, hear and feel when you achieve it)

Is the context clearly defined

Does it identify the resources needed?

Have I evaluated whether it is ecological?

Does it identify the first steps you need to take?

NLP Plus can help you unpack what you want and coach you through to your success!

I will be at Stevenson College on Monday 5th December to run a one day programme for managers, lecturers and support staff on how to change your mindset. The day will focus on practical skills of NLP from anchoring the right state to the chain of excellence which looks at changing your breathing which affects your physiology which changes your state and thus your performance.

Another event will take place on the 16th January which is the first day of a two day progamme for managers .

These events have been arranged through the east of scotlands staff development collaborative group and participants will come from various colleges including Jewel and Esk, Stevensons, Carnegie and Telford College.

I am looking forward to running these events as this is bulding on a number of previous events run since 2008.
